A lot has come to love Disney’s animated classics such as Aladdin. And although years have passed since 1992, Aladdin continues to put us in awe. With the success Beauty and the Beast garnered, it is not hard to imagine an Aladdin live-action as well.
Talks about who will replace Robin Williams’ Genie has stopped after announcing that Will Smith will play the role. There have been a lot of comments about the staffing. Robin Williams has done a marvelous job as the genie, but Will Smith may have something else to offer the viewers.
Given that Will Smith’s fees would require a bit more time to put in a pen, the production has announced who would play the other lead roles.
Mena Massoud and Naomi Scott are to play Aladdin and Jasmine. Massoud is an Egypt-born actor who has done a couple of movies and TV series throughout his career while Scott is well-known for her role in the movie Power Rangers. Marwan Kenzari who will play the villain, Jafar completes the central casting.
The Aladdin Official Shoot Begins With a Selfie!
What better way to start the first day by celebrating with a selfie? In a selfie posted by Will Smith, the cast is seen together for the first time.
Unlike Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin is not a shot-for shot remake of the classic. The live-action version is to be a mixture of the 1992 classic as well as the original folktale, “Aladdin and the Magic Lamp” from One Thousand And One Nights. Two iconic musical pieces will remain, to say the least.
Disney announced the addition of a new character introduced in the movie. Billy Magnussen will play Prince Anders, one of Princess Jasmine’s suitors.
Although the classic won’t be as we remember it, expect this live-action movie to give us one hell of a magic carpet ride. The movie has no anticipated date yet as shooting is still underway.
